Ramadan bazaars have long been a cherished tradition in Malaysia, offering a vibrant atmosphere filled with a variety of mouth-watering dishes for those fasting and anyone looking to enjoy delicious food during the holy month.
It has become a cultural experience, where people come together to explore the endless choices of local delicacies.

However, year after year, the same issue arises—food wastage.
Many visitors to the Ramadan bazaar often find themselves overwhelmed by the sheer number of options available. With so many tempting dishes, it’s easy to go overboard and purchase more than necessary, only to realise later that they cannot finish everything. This leads to a significant amount of food going to waste after breaking fast.
Recently, a viral video surfaced featuring a group of young individuals walking through a Ramadan bazaar dressed in food-themed outfits.
Shared by TikTok user @anistaqwa, the creative approach was aimed at reminding visitors to be mindful of their purchases and to avoid wasting food. The group hoped to encourage people to buy responsibly rather than giving in to their cravings.
Adding to the cultural touch, the awareness campaign was accompanied by traditional kompang music, making the message even more impactful.
While Ramadan bazaars are a great way to experience the festive spirit, it’s important to practise moderation. Food wastage is not just a waste of money, but also a waste of valuable resources.
Let’s make a conscious effort to buy only what we can eat and appreciate the blessings we have!
