Despite the polarising opinions on the distinct aroma and flavour of durians, Malaysians showcased their unwavering love for the "King of Fruits" during a recent auction in Raub, Pahang. 

The spotlight was on the renowned Musang King variety, originating from the region, which fetched an astonishing RM185,000!

Pahang's Exco of Communication and Multimedia, Youth, Sports, and Non-Government Bodies, Fadzli Mohamad Kamal, took to Facebook to share the exciting news. The auction, held at Raub's SMK Sg Ruan, featured various durians, with the proceeds designated for the enhancement of the school's infrastructure.

Commencing with an initial bid of RM2,000, the Musang King durian witnessed enthusiastic participants engaging in spirited bidding. Ultimately, the victorious bidder was Mr. Huang Qi Wen, who offered a staggering RM185,000 for the prized durian.

Adding to the fervour, Fadzli Mohamad Kamal, also the assemblyperson for Dong, disclosed that the highest bid for a Black Thorn durian reached RM15,000. Dato’ Lye We Ken generously contributed RM204,444 through the auction program. 

In total, the event garnered a remarkable sum of RM404,444, reflecting the enduring passion Malaysians have for durians, even amid varying opinions about their scent and taste.
