Penang Elderly Uncle Wins Praise for Using a Tiffin to Tapau His Food at a Famous Mamak!

Plastic waste has become a significant environmental issue worldwide, and Malaysia is no exception. The convenience of single-use plastic packaging, often used for takeaway meals, has made it a staple in our daily lives. It's easy to see why—no need to carry containers from home or worry about cleaning them afterward.

But this convenience comes at a steep cost to the planet, with mountains of non-biodegradable waste clogging landfills, polluting rivers, and harming marine life.

Amid this growing concern, one inspiring individual in Penang is showing how small actions can make a difference. A humble uncle, spotted at the popular Nasi Kandar Sulaiman, caught attention for bringing his own tiffin to pack his takeaway meal.

The restaurant, known for its delicious nasi kandar, took to Facebook to celebrate the uncle’s eco-friendly choice. “Here’s our uncle, buying dishes and rice to put in his tiffin. Saves on paper wrapping and plastic. Not many people do this anymore!” the post read.

The uncle’s actions struck a chord with netizens, who showered him with praise and admiration. Many commented on how the tiffin reminded them of simpler, greener times.

One user wrote, “I need to buy a tiffin for my nasi kandar trips. It’s time to stop using plastic!” Another remarked, “Uncle is setting a good example—plastic and hot food are not a healthy combination.”

For some, the post evoked nostalgia. “The tiffin box brings back memories of picnics during childhood. Food always tasted better that way,” one commenter reminisced.

Ini dia uncle kita beli lauk dan nasi letak dalam tiffin box. Jimat kertas bungkus dan plastic. Jarang orang buat macam ini😁

Let’s take a page from this uncle’s book. Consider using reusable containers for your takeaways to reduce plastic waste. Small steps like these can inspire others and contribute to a healthier planet for future generations.

After all, change often begins with one person willing to make a difference!
