Every year, the monsoon season brings floods to Malaysia, particularly affecting the northern and eastern states. These devastating floods upend lives, force evacuations, and destroy homes, leaving families to face incredible hardships.
Yet, amidst the chaos and challenges, Malaysians continue to find ways to adapt and create moments of resilience and joy.

One couple from Kedah turned what could have been a heartbreaking situation into a unique celebration. Newlyweds Nur Izzatul Asma Mustafa and Mohamed Khairie Mohamed Kamal managed to commemorate their wedding day despite being surrounded by rising floodwaters.
The couple had spent months meticulously planning their big day, which was meant to host 1,000 guests. However, the worsening floods forced them to make last-minute changes. Instead of cancelling, they decided to adapt, distributing their pre-ordered food and wedding souvenirs to the public. Speaking to Astro Awani, Nur Izzatul explained that the road leading to their homestay in Titi Besi had become inaccessible to light vehicles, making it impossible to hold the event as planned.
Despite these challenges, the couple embraced the situation with grace. Donning their wedding attire, they posed for memorable photos on a boat and a four-wheel-drive vehicle amidst the floodwaters. "It’s not what we envisioned, but it turned out to be a day we’ll never forget," Nur Izzatul shared.

The couple had spent around RM20,000 on preparations, including booking a dais, makeup artist, and catering. While they were heartbroken by the changes, they found solace in their ability to share their celebration with the community by distributing the packed meals
For Mohamed Khairie, the day was bittersweet. “We’re grateful the ceremony could still go on, but it’s disappointing that we couldn’t celebrate with all our loved ones due to the floods. I’ve only seen weddings like this on television and social media—never thought it would happen to us.”
Their unique wedding may not have been the one they planned, but it will undoubtedly be remembered as a symbol of hope and strength during trying times.
