While visiting Kuala Lumpur recently, a Chinese tourist was deeply moved by the extraordinary kindness of a Malaysian e-hailing driver who went above and beyond to help her when her child fell ill.
Sherry, who shares her travel experiences on her XiaoHongShu account, recounts a particularly frantic moment when her child suddenly developed a fever. With pharmacies still closed at 8am, she booked a car in search of help. When the driver picked her up, he immediately noticed her anxiety and asked if everything was alright.

Using a translation app, Sherry explained her daughter’s condition. The driver, empathetic and keen to assist, offered to take her to a nearby pharmacy instead of her intended destination. Grateful for his understanding, Sherry agreed.
However, the driver’s support didn’t stop there.
Upon arriving at a nearby shopping mall, instead of just dropping her off and pointing her in the direction of a pharmacy, the driver accompanied Sherry inside. Worried about potential communication barriers, he helped bridge the gap by speaking to the pharmacy staff on her behalf.
“I thought he would drop me off, but he stopped the car and came with me. I could tell he was concerned that I might have trouble communicating with the pharmacy staff,” Sherry recalled.
With the driver’s assistance, Sherry was able to ensure her daughter received the correct medication, using the translation app to discuss the dosage.

Afterwards, the driver drove Sherry back to her destination, refusing the generous RM50 she offered for his help. Instead, he only accepted RM20 as the fare for the ride.
In a final gesture of kindness, the driver made a stop at a restaurant on the way back, signalling that she should get some food for her child.
Sherry took to social media to highlight the kindness of the driver, urging others who visit Kuala Lumpur to consider riding with him, "I just wanted to share this amazing experience. If you ever get the chance, I hope you’ll ride in his car when you’re in KL,” she said.
This heartwarming encounter is a reminder of the incredible kindness Malaysians are known for. We extend our thanks to the abang driver for his selfless help, and for embodying the true spirit of compassion and hospitality.
