The video, uploaded by Tuna Cameron on Facebook, is believed to have been recorded on Sunday (14 September), during the long holiday weekend when traffic heading into the popular hill station was at its peak.

In the clip, some motorists could be seen trying their best to create a path for the fire engine. However, others either appeared to ignore the emergency vehicle or had no room to manoeuvre, leaving the fire truck stuck in the gridlock.

The incident has reignited conversations about traffic accessibility in Cameron Highlands, particularly during holiday seasons when the narrow roads are heavily congested. Netizens voiced concern that such delays could cost precious time during emergencies. Among the suggestions raised was the use of motorcycle escorts to help clear a path for emergency vehicles in crowded areas.

More importantly, the video serves as a reminder for all road users. In emergencies, every second counts. If you are caught in heavy traffic and hear a siren approaching, here are some steps you can take:

  • Stay calm and alert. Keep an eye on your mirrors and listen for approaching sirens.

  • Do not accelerate or stop suddenly. Move to the left or right safely to create space.

  • Avoid blocking junctions or overtaking an emergency vehicle.

  • If there is truly no space to move, signal clearly so the emergency team knows you are aware of them.

Giving way can make the difference between life and death for someone in need.

As Malaysians, it is our responsibility to stay considerate on the road and ensure emergency responders can reach their destination without delay.
