Two wild elephants that were given the names Siti and Pagar, were successfully transferred from Kampung Bukit Pagar, Kuala Krai, Kelantan by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) on Sunday (August 1st).
The gentle giants were believed to have left the forest reserve to a nearby kampung in search of food, especially now that it’s musim buah in Malaysia!

It took the team from PERHILITAN almost six hours to transfer the mother and its baby, using two of their tame elephants, Surai and Kala to lead the two wild elephants.
Kelantan Wildlife Director, Ady Armanty Haniff said that Siti and Pagar were persuaded by Surai and Kala who lead them away from the kampung, 400 meters from the location where they were caught before being taken to a Taman Negara in Terengganu using a lorry.
Siti and Pagar, who are believed to be 18 and three-years-old respectively, were caught by PERHILITAN last Thursday (July 29th) at a nearby rubber plantation after receiving 14 complaints from the residents of Kampung Bukit Pagar regarding two wild elephants that were roaming the area.
“The two elephants were successfully captured using a tranquilizer to sedate the wild animals. Both of them are in good health, however, the male elephant, Pagar, has old injuries on his trunk.
“After further checks, we found that the baby elephant was able to continue to survive in the wild with the help of its mother, Siti,” he said.

How adorable!
We’re glad that no one hurt them and that they are now safe! Well done, Malaysians.
