A veteran actor during the P. Ramlee era, Abdul Kadir Mamat, or famously known as Pok Dir has always been the talk of the town during National Day celebrations due to his patriotism!
Pok Dir will always put on his Jalur Gemilang shirt in conjunction with National Day, however, he was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and was forced to wear a bladder tube making it difficult for him to move.

“I was often invited to liven the National Day celebration, especially at schools, but now since COVID-19 hit the country, the celebrations are not as lively as before, and we don’t know when this will end.
“To celebrate National Day this time, I think I will probably celebrate it at home with my wife, Hasmah. Before this, I had the intention to march around the village carrying the Jalur Gemilang,” he told Sinar Harian.

He added that his health had started to deteriorate over the past month and he was in and out of hospital for treatment.
Throughout his acting career, Pok Dir acted in many famous films directed by the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee, such as Ali Baba Bujang Lapok, Pendekar Bujang Lapok and Kanchan Tirana.
While starring in Ali Baba Bujang Lapok, Pok Dir portrayed the bandit who Marjina poured hot oil on, played by the legendary actress, Datuk Sarimah Ahmad.
