Today, we found one that will change the course of our lives and the bananas we buy forever.
A Malaysian netizen that goes by the moniker @pineabul took to Twitter to show us the power of words and the effect of telling bananas that they’re still on a tree. Days after he first hung his bananas, they were still fresh. The bananas truly believed that they were still on a banana tree.
This reminds us of the water ‘science’ experiment by Masaru Emoto that went viral almost a decade ago. If you exposed two glasses of water to positive and negative words respectively then froze the waters, one would produce beautiful crystals and the other would produce ugly crystals. That is the power of words.
But in all seriousness, Abul explained that the reason why the bananas remained fresh was because “bananas release ethylene gas as they ripen. Having them laid down on a shelf will entrap the gas and cause them to ripen faster. Hanging them will cause the gas to be released evenly. And hence don't ripe as fast.”
