34-year-old Mohd Rozamil decided to brighten up the walls during the Movement Control Order (MCO) with a mural depicting a classic wooden kampung house.

He even added a traditional village background into his work!

He told BERNAMA that the idea came spontaneously.

“I remembered the sweet memories of living in a wooden house with my grandmother a long time ago. Unexpectedly, many people liked it and they were impressed when I uploaded it on Facebook,” he said.

The mural has since caught the attention of netizens not only because it depicts a wooden house, but the feelgood kampung nostalgia of the era, including some coconut trees, birds, chickens, kain batik and a ceramic jar placed next to the wooden stairs.

He even included a zinc toilet door in his painting, which is a familiar sight when it comes to life in a kampung house.

Rozamil said it took him a week to complete the mural using the basic colours - black, white, brown and green.

“I only spent RM85 because I used a lot of existing equipment and paint. This painting should last five years.

“After I posted the photos of the mural and it went viral, I received offers to paint a wall mural in Kuala Lumpur,” said Rozamil who started working as a full-time painter in 2005.

Do you see the 1kg Milo tin in the artwork? If that doesn’t scream Malaysia, we don’t know what does.
