This father is going the distance and taking every measure he can in these difficult times to provide for his two daughters, aged 6 and 10, as their sole caregiver after his wife abandoned the family two years ago.
Johnny, mainly known by the name of his stall “Hao Ba You Tiao” which literally translates to “good father dough fritters”, initially began his business in Johor Jaya, where a kind coffee shop owner allowed him to open a little stall selling deep fried dough fritters, lovingly known to Malaysians as cakoi, you tiao or char kwai.
In a Facebook post posted in June, Johnny was hopeful, stating that despite the pandemic, humans are filled with love and care. He thanked the public for their encouragement, support and help. In the Facebook post, he stated that as a father of two, he could only hope to provide a home and three meals for his daughters. He dared not dream for more.
However, times are tough, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, Johnny relocated to Seri Kembangan, Selangor in hopes that the big city would provide more income and stability. His stall is now running outside Peng Chu Restaurant on Jalan SP 2/3, Taman Serdang Perdana.

A netizen took to Facebook just yesterday (23rd October 2020), highlighting the poor father’s plight and calling for Malaysians to band around and support him. A note visible on the father’s stall states that he is homeless and is looking for a place to rent.
The post went viral overnight with messages of support pouring in for Johnny.
We are touched by this man’s determination to provide a stable life for his daughters.
