One day after the announcement of the COVID-19 National Recovery Plan, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced on Wednesday (June 16th) that he will be addressed as:
Mahiaddin bin. Md Yasin or Tan Sri Dato Haji Mahiaddin bin. Haji Md Yasin.

A circular from the PM’s Chief Private Secretary addressing all the officers and staff at the Prime Minister’s Office was circulating all over social media yesterday which stated that every official document and letter addressed to the Prime Minister must only use the two names stated above.
However, the public and the media can still call the prime minister by the name he has always used, which is Muhyiddin Yassin as the use of his official name is only for formal documents and letters.
The word “Mahiaddin” was trending on Twitter the whole day, yesterday (June 16th).

If you’re like us, you’d be surprised to find out that actually “Muhyiddin” is not his real name!
Mahiaddin is the prime minister’s given name, but he is better known through his adopted name of Muhyiddin.
According to The Rakyat Post, the circular appeared after a High Court ruling in April revoked a detention order he had signed during his time as Home Minister, on grounds that it carried his unofficial name.
The judge ruled that under the Ministerial Functions Act 1969, the prime minister must use his gazetted name of Mahiaddin Md Yasin as that was one stated in his MyKad.
