The man, once again, was determined to swim across the straits of Penang without police permission, but this time, he wanted to swim to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
Authorities found the man floating in the middle of Penang waters on a styrofoam raft at 4:45 pm on Monday (August 2nd) and was rescued then arrested for the same offence of trying to cross district borders without permission.
According to BERNAMA, north-east district police chief ACP Soffian Santong said that the 28-year-old man had earlier jumped into the sea at the Tanjung City Marina jetty before being rescued by the Marine Police Force (PPM) and they found that he was the same individual in the previously reported incident.
“The incident had gone viral on social media and received various reactions from the public. As a result of the initial investigation, the man is the same man who tried swimming to Seberang Perai reported on July 12th.
“But this time, he told authorities that he wanted to swim to the holy land of Mecca,” he said in a statement.

The man was taken to the Penang Hospital for treatment and mental health assessment, however, the result showed that he did not have any mental problems and that his urine screening test found that he was negative of drugs.
He will be placed at the Jalan Perak Psychiatric Ward for further treatment.
