Samuel Isaish is an English teacher at SK Runchang, Pahang. He was shortlisted from a selection of over 12,000 nominations and applications from more than 140 countries.
The Global teacher prize is akin to a ‘Nobel Prize’ for teachers. It is a $1 million award for an exceptional teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession. The award aims to highlight the importance of the teaching profession and celebrate teachers worldwide.

Samuel has also received accolades and recognition of his efforts in educating Orang Asli children in the past having received the Education Ministry’s Superhero Teachers Award in 2019.
Samuel’s heart and passion in teaching his students is evident by how much his students love him. The Kuantan native made the news in 2019 when he revealed that 100 of his Orang Asli students traversed over 200km just to attend his wedding in 2017. In his tweet on the matter he explained that his students were extremely excited at the news of his nuptials and had even self-invited themselves to the event!
Currently, Samuel is pursuing a Master’s degree in Educational Policy and Leadership in the State University of New York.
