eWallet, or digital wallet is an alternative payment option to cash based on encryption software that stores payment information much like a traditional wallet. It’s basically similar to a debit card or a debit card.

However, recently, a store owner share how he was almost scammed by one of his customers.

Faez, the owner of Purrfect Pets, a pet store and motel recently took to Twitter to share how he was almost scammed by a customer. Oh no!

He also advised other shop owners who use the QR pay method to always double-check the account connected to the QR code for confirmation that the money transferred had been received.

Faez explained that the woman came into his store with her two small boys and started grabbing a few items. She then went to the counter to pay and asked if she could pay using the DuitNow mobile banking app.

“I sat at the back of the cashier and was listening to their conversation.

“I looked at my QRPayBiz app and there was no transaction made. She then went back into the store and started grabbing more stuff,” he said.

He shared a photo of the “receipt” and noted that it was actually just a screenshot of the pay page where the pay button had been cropped out which she then showed as her receipt.

Faez also shared CCTV footage where the woman only keyed in the amount, screenshotted the page, and closed the banking app. How sneaky!

After her failed attempt, the woman then went to another branch of the pet store and tried to do the same thing, however this time, the staff at the store made her wait until her payment went through, which in the end, she ended up paying for the items with cash.

That was super sneaky!

Contactless payment is convenient, easy to use, and for sure it helps reduce health and safety concerns, especially now during the COVID-19 pandemic, however, please be vigilant to avoid getting scammed when using a payment app.

Stay safe, guys!
