Please be careful when you meet new people online!

Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz has issued a friendly reminder to the public to reject any unsolicited advances from an individual claiming to hold his position as Malaysia’s Finance Minister.

A kindergarten teacher recently lost RM4,200 after being scammed by an individual disguised as the Finance Minister.

According to Kosmo, Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief, Supt. Mohd. Wazir Mohd. Yusof said the victim, who lives in Kemayan, Pahang, met the suspect earlier this month.

“The suspect used Tengku Zafrul’s Facebook name and introduced himself as the Finance Minister besides also sending messages to the victim via messaging app, WhatsApp.

“The suspect promised the woman RM1 Million and a Rolls-Royce car if she agreed to marry him,” he said in a statement.

The suspect then asked the woman to deal with another individual named Siti, who is allegedly Tengku Zafrul’s bank manager. The victim was then asked to pay a processing fee to “marry” the suspect.

The 59-year-old teacher then proceeded to make the payment via cash deposit machine (CDM) at a bank in Temerloh on December 10th.

“The suspect then lodged a police report after realizing that she had been scammed. She also said she made the report so that the authorities are aware that there are individuals who are using the minister’s name to scam people,” he added.

Alamak, so dangerous!
