K-pop Artist Is Fed Up With Malaysians Mocking Her Name

Some keyboard warriors may not be aware, but cyberbullying can have a detrimental effect on a person’s life no matter who they are or where they come from.

Recently, a K-pop artist, So Young, or more commonly known with her stage name “Babi” was taunted by Malaysians, up to a point where she had to call them out for mocking her name on Instagram.

We’ll just let that sink in for a while…

In a post that has since been deleted, So Young wrote “Malaysians who came here to mock my name have to see this post”

“Why are you doing this to me? Just because my name is your laughing stock?”

“I am not interested in your language. So, it doesn’t matter what my name means in your language. And I didn’t know your country, but I don’t want to know it anymore”

Just imagine, an international artist being so fed up with our childish and immature behaviour that she doesn’t want anything to do with Malaysia anymore…

So Young also wrote in her post that she will block anyone that she sees mocking her name again.

The word “Babi” refers to pig in English, and is often used by Malaysians to make a derogatory remark, so poor So Young who probably had no idea what was going on at first, had Malaysians flooding her comments section just to make fun of her name.

We would like to think that this is the one time that Malaysians acted so immaturely on something that was so unnecessary, but who are we kidding?

Back in 2018, singer Dua Lipa was also ridiculed online by some Malaysians when she posted 'Happy Birthday, Babi' on an Instagram caption celebrating her father’s birthday.

Probably as confused as So Young, was the singer who correctly used the term that meant “dad’ in Albanian language, then edited it to "Happy Birthday Dad".

Maybe it’s time for some Malaysians to grow up, don’t you think?
