Good Job, Malaysia! Said Our Indonesian Neighbours

Malaysia has been receiving praises all over the world, for how we’ve handled the COVID-19 pandemic. From officials at World Health Organizations (WHO) to China’s Press, Indonesians have now also joined in to congratulate Malaysia for doing such a good job in handling the outbreak.

Bernama reports that Indonesians have commended the Malaysian government in helping those who are in need, especially the ones whose income have been affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO).

In a Youtube video titled "Mengejutkan! Beginilah Kondisi Terkini di Malaysia" ("Shocking! This is the current situation in Malaysia) posted by Indonesian Youtuber “Macan Idealis’, biotechnology expert and research administrator of Halal Industry Research Centre, Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (USIM), Prof Dr Irwandi Jaswir, was interviewed on the current MCO situation in Malaysia.

During the interview, it was revealed that many Indonesians are impressed by the financial assistance and other initiatives that have been extended to those severely hit by the economy.

The Youtuber hopes that the Indonesian government would follow suit in terms of taking more proactive measures for its citizens who are badly affected during the pandemic.

The video has so far been viewed over 500,000 times and also received nearly 6,000 comments, mostly in support of Malaysia’s commendable effort in handling the COVID-19 pandemic

Indonesia had imposed large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) in stages since March 16 and a wide range of aid and initiatives were also announced by President Joko Widodo, which includes financial assistance amounting to Rp600,000 a month for three months, sembako card aid (essential item card) worth Rp200,000 monthly, for nine months to 20 million eligible family heads.

As for Malaysia, the number of cases as of this afternoon (16 April), has for the first time dipped below three digits after almost one month of the enforcement of the MCO.

Well done, Malaysia! Let’s continue to win this fight!
