Firdaus was passing by a dumpster at Taman Suria in Jitra, Kedah at 8 pm when he saw the man and his son.
His caption read: “I saw this man and his son rummaging through the dumpster looking for old boxes to sell the next day. When I stopped near the dumpster, I could smell the strong stench of rubbish.”
Firdaus asked the man whether he had eaten and he said yes.
The man told him that he was just collecting boxes to sell, adding that he has five children he has to feed, however, when offered some money, the man declined.
“I told him, ‘If you don’t want the money, it’s okay. But please take it for your children’ and ask him to buy dinner for them tonight and the next day. I also asked him to use the money to buy the essentials that he doesn’t have at home,” he wrote.
The father of five then shed tears after receiving the money.
He explained to Firdaus that he didn’t want to accept the money at first because he was scared of what people might think about him.
“We might be okay but you don’t know… there might be people out here who are struggling, who are terribly hungry. During the FMCO, many are struggling financially and I hope that God will help everyone who is struggling,” he said.
