Hello polis, we are here to report a crime…
A British reporter just mocked our NASI LEMAK…yes, OUR NASI LEMAK!
Katie Morley, a UK-based journalist from The Telegraph posted her in-flight meal when she was boarding a 13-hour flight with British Airways. In a picture she posted, what looks like Nasi Lemak with white rice, possibly curry chicken, a slice of boiled egg, fried anchovies and a side of sambal, was a meal she considered, truly horrific.
According to her, the “chicken curry served with anaemic boiled egg, topped with smelly, slimy anchovies. ANCHOVIES” was wickedly bad and being the journalist that she is, is reporting for the good of the public.
Now, it’s usually pretty common for everyday people to complain about food, and we can attest that in-flight meal may not be the best version of any meal…
However, Katie should know better that we Malaysians are passionate about our food, especially when it comes to our national dish, the glorious nasi lemak.
Katie’s post obviously angered many Malaysians, who had a thing or two to let out.
Remember that British man who travelled 6,000 miles just to have a taste of our precious nasi lemak?
But it may not be entirely her fault though, as compared the in-flight nasi lemak we have on Malaysian Airlines and back home in Malaysia.
In response to the overwhelming negative replies she’s gotten from many Malaysians, Katie has since apologized, claiming that she had meant no offense and hopes to try the real nasi lemak one day.
"Many Malaysians have got in touch to say the meal I tweeted about yesterday is a popular national dish. I'd not come across it before and meant no offence. As many have pointed out, I was clearly served a very poor version by BA. Sure, it can be lovely and hope to try the real thing one day!"
Rest assured, if you want Malaysians to come together…get someone to belittle our nation’s pride.
There’s a lesson to be learned here…
DON’T EVER GET IN BETWEEN MALAYSIANS AND THEIR LOVE FOR NASI LEMAK!
