Devotees Help Malay Woman Give Birth At Batu Caves On Thaipusam

This is amazing!

Naroshinii Annaselam, together with her mother and brother were at Batu Caves on Tuesday (January 18th) to celebrate Thaipusam, a famous and holy festival amongst the South Indians.

During their pilgrimage towards Batu Caves, Naroshinii noticed a car stopping in a hurry in the middle of a junction, where a traffic police passed by them but just dismissed them. Probably didn’t see them, though!

She then noticed the driver, a Malay man wailing in distress.

Naroshinii was shocked and left the procession to head towards the car. She then asked the driver what happened and he told her that his wife suddenly had a premature delivery in the car and that he needed help.

As she looked at the lady beside him, she realized that the woman was half conscious (almost knocked out) and she could see her baby’s body was already out.

“I was shocked. I mean, I know CPR but not baby delivery! I pulled myself together and quickly ran to Amma. She was frantically calling my name to join back the procession.

“I rushed to her and told her the situation and told her to come over. Mom had 3 years of nursing experience before she got married but in spite of that, I have always seen her as a doctor/nurse/surgeon my whole life. Only lacking a MBBS cert,” she said.

Her mother rushed to the woman who was losing her willpower to stay awake. She then immediately held the baby that was halfway suspended from the mother’s womb, and after assessing the situation, she told Naroshinii to find some clothes and scissors.

She tried yelling to the crowd around them for some sort of shawl or cloth, but to no avail and in a haste, Naroshinii removed her kurti and passed it over to her mother.

Almost instantly there seemed to be a crowd to see what was going on.

Naroshinii then called on the women to cover the car with clothes as her mother was performing the delivery. The women also helped by covering the car so that the mother could have her privacy.

Murmuring a small prayer, Naroshinii’s mother gently twisted the baby and pulled her out. The baby cried, “After all that ruckus, it was the happiest cry that I’ve ever heard! I even cried! It was a baby girl,” she said.

An ambulance arrived shortly afterwards to attend to the mother and newborn.
