She said that the family will be given a temporary home at the Sri Johor Cheras flat in KL, while four of Private Suria Mohamad Hassan’s children will be receiving child assistance aid under the Social Welfare Department (JKM) starting next month.
She added that his wife, Azariah and their five children aged between 1 to 14 had been living under the bridge with him without any proper shelter or electricity and have been using firewood to cook their meals.

“They have been living in poverty, under a bridge for the past two years, even before the pandemic. We sometimes overlook these things. The family, especially the children, need help as they are still in school. They must be given a home and education so that they will not be left behind.
“I understand that DBKL will take a week to finalise the housing matters but for now we will place them in a transit house, which will be their home temporarily,” she said.
The family also received food aid and financial support from the ministry and the National Welfare Foundation.
Other than that, the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council and the Malayan Armed Forces Veteran Affairs Department (JHEV) will also be helping the family
