A Teacher’s Dilemma

Growing up, we are taught to love and respect our teachers. We have Teacher's Day to celebrate them and some teachers even go as far as educating us outside of school hours, so we are not left behind.

While being a teacher is a noble profession, it sometimes comes with a hefty price to pay.

Recently, Facebook user, Mohd Fadli Salleh, shared the accounts of teachers facing torment and abuse through a compilation of pictures submitted by teachers across Malaysia and we are just appalled!

One teacher had her car scratched by her primary school student.

Another, who he assumed is a discipline teacher, had black paint poured all over his/her car as an act of revenge.

This Uztazah was called a pig (babi) and stupid (bodoh), words if we ever use on our parents would guarantee us a free smacking! Apparently, the “love letter” was received after the Uztazah advised a couple of Form 2 students to stop playing their Mobile Legends cards while she was teaching!

By far the worst one is this teacher who had to have 7 stitches after a Form 1 student attacked him with a rock while he was praying, just to steal his wallet.

Whereas the last picture pretty much summed up why teachers still do what they do even after experiencing such atrocities. After this teacher was given the middle finger for calling out  students for sleeping in class, this teacher made it clear that a teacher’s job is to teach and as long as nobody is physically injured, this teacher will endure whatever is thrown at him/her.

We are truly heartbroken and horrified after reading these accounts and we are pretty sure these are not isolated incidents. Fadli’s post had since gone viral and was received by the teacher’s community who also shared the same experience

Mohd Fadhil shared in his post most of these teachers are helpless when it comes to these situations. To cane or punish them, that’s only up to the headmaster or discipline teacher’s jurisdiction. To file a police report, they would pity the students. So, in the end they would just accept their fate and suffer silently.

He goes on to say that it’s usually teachers who care the most that receive this kind of treatment. Those who would chase after students if they play truant or would take action if they caught them smoking and who are just worried for their students’ future.

Fadli ended his post by advising fellow parents to share the responsibility of shaping their children to become more responsible and accountable for their actions. To advise their kids to behave better, to control their angst, and to respect others

We hope with this revelation, all of us can lend a helping hand in educating our future generation to become better and to treat others like how they want to be treated.
