7 Year Old Attacked Online For Not Being Able To Speak Malay

The makcik bawangs and keyboard warriors are at it again!

Remember the 7-year-old Iban girl, Isabelle, that gained a lot of attention in a viral video of her showing off her dance moves to the hit song from Didi & Friends, “Mengantuknya Mumia”?

Recently Isabelle was invited onto the popular TV show, Meletop as a guest – and during the show the host asked whether she could speak in Malay, in which the young girl shyly stated that she hadn’t mastered speaking in Malay yet.

Her simple reply seemed to have triggered some makcik bawangs online, with many taking it to the comment section of the video to further criticize the little girl and her lack of knowledge in the language.

“Sad how young Malaysians now don’t even know how to speak their national language” and some even quoted from Hang Tuah “Takkan Melayu Hilang di Dunia” which means “Never Shall Malay(s) vanish from the earth”.

There were however some who defended the little girl, explaining that she’s Iban and she grew up speaking her mother tongue (English). They also pointed out that she’s only 7 years old and still has plenty of time to master Bahasa Malaysia in school.

Isabelle (and her parents) were also complimented on her good manners and the way she was raised, as she was very confident and hilarious on stage.

Facebook user Douglas Rick, who came across the video on YouTube, defended Isabelle, saying that people should focus more on her talent and confidence instead of her lack of knowledge in Bahasa Malaysia.

Chill guys, it’s not THAT serious… we feel like she has her whole life to learn different languages. What do you think?
