Loyal X users who are enjoying an ad-free experience, prepare for a price shock. X Premium+ has recently undergone a significant price adjustment.

Effective from 21 December, Elon Musk has hiked the monthly cost of the premium service in the US from USD16 (RM72) to USD22 (RM98), with annual subscriptions jumping from USD168 (RM751) to USD229 (RM1,024).
For users abroad, particularly in Malaysia, the scenario is even less inviting. The X blog reveals the Basic plan now at RM13.13 per month, Premier at RM35, and Premium+ at RM99 monthly. Annually, expect to pay RM140.57, RM369, and RM1,030 respectively.
Going through third-party platforms like the Apple App Store will hike the price further, and there won't be any loyalty discounts for existing users; everyone will see these new rates from 20 January 2025.
Premium+ touts an almost ad-free journey (with the odd promoted post), alongside extras like Radar, expedited support, and advanced AI features via Grok. But does this justify the price surge?
Musk argues it's essential for enhancing Premium+ and supporting a new creator monetisation system where engagement, not just ad views, dictates earnings. This shift comes as X tries to claw back from lost advertising income following Musk's 2022 acquisition.
Now, users must weigh if the premium experience is worth the cost on a platform still finding its financial legs.
