According to FMT, State fisheries director Noraishah Hashim said many residents and visitors took the opportunity to collect the anchovies between 11 am and 1 pm on Sunday (14 August). Investigations showed that such incidents were rare and only happened at Pasir Bogak beach.

The anchovies were found beaching themselves at 7:30 pm on Saturday (13 August) while on Friday, a small quantity of silver-type round herring fries was also found stranded on the beach.

Malaysians, of course, brought their own bags to tapau the ikan bilis home after photos and videos of the anchovies leaping out of the waters went viral over the weekend.

It is also understood that the beaching of anchovies happened several times already starting on Friday (12 August).
