Smartboards to Be Installed in All Malaysian Schools by 2027, Says Education Minister

By 2027, every school in Malaysia will have access to smartboards, according to the Ministry of Education. The initiative is part of the government's push to enhance digital technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration within the education system.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek revealed the ambitious plan during a recent statement, saying that the goal of equipping all schools with this technology by 2027 remains on track. To support this transition, the government is also investing in upgrading teacher resource centres into hubs of educational technology excellence.

“The target of having smartboards in all schools by 2027 is achievable, and we are prepared with additional support plans, including upgrading teacher centres to be centres of excellence in educational technology,” said Fadhlina.

The Ministry plans to install smartboards in more than 10,200 schools nationwide within the next two years. Notably, Penang has already reached a 100% deployment rate, with all 396 schools in the state using smartboards.

Despite the growing role of technology in the classroom, Fadhlina was quick to emphasise that the role of teachers remains central. "Technology cannot replace teachers. Teachers will always be at the forefront of educating our children and ensuring that the values, integrity, and morals of students are upheld," she affirmed.

As Malaysia takes these steps toward a more digital future in education, the balance between technology and traditional teaching will play a crucial role in shaping the future of learning in the country.
