Deputy Premier, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian has warned Sarawakians to prepare for a new COVID-19 wave caused by a highly infectious Omicron variant BA.2.12.1 and BA.5 in Kuching and Sibu.
According to BERNAMA, the World Health Organization (WHO) had previously flagged these Omicron sub-variants as highly infectious with faster transmission rates over the parent Omicron, Variant of Concern (VOC).

The Institute of Health and Community Medicine at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak discovered the BA.2.12.1 and BA.5 in Kuching as Sibu last week!
Meanwhile, on October 30th, a brand new Delta AY.23 sub-variant was discovered in Sarawak, which sparked a surge of infections in Singapore.
Guys, please don’t be complacent and take care of yourself and your loved ones. Remember to wear a face mask when you’re indoors, wash your hands regularly and avoid crowded places.
