Petrol station operators are advising drivers not to be alarmed if RON95 pumps display the full retail price starting 30 September. The subsidised BUDI95 rate of RM1.99 per litre will still be applied automatically for Malaysians who qualify.

The reminder comes after the official unsubsidised price of RON95 was set at RM2.60 per litre for October, an increase of 55 sen from RM2.05. Although the pump display will show the higher market rate, the final amount charged to eligible Malaysians will reflect the subsidy.
According to the Petroleum Dealers' Association of Malaysia, the adjusted price will appear on the pre-payment confirmation and the receipt, not on the pump meter. Customers who are unsure can confirm details with station staff.
The Finance Ministry has also clarified through its FAQ that drivers should not worry if there is a difference between the pump display and the final receipt. For instance, if the pump shows RM2.60, the system will automatically charge only RM1.99 for those entitled to the subsidy.
Under the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) scheme, the following rules apply:
-
Malaysian citizens aged 16 and above with an active driving licence qualify for the RM1.99 subsidised rate.
-
Eligibility is verified through MyKad, using the same mechanism as the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid.
-
Each driver is entitled to 300 litres of subsidised RON95 per month.
-
E-hailing drivers are exempt from the 300-litre limit.
The government emphasised that the subsidy will be applied seamlessly at the point of purchase, and drivers only need to ensure their MyKad is valid and registered.
