Rapid KL to Boost Train Capacity and Frequency on Kajang Line After Viral Congestion Video

Rapid KL has unveiled plans to enhance train capacity and frequency on the Kajang Line following public outcry over severe overcrowding at Pasar Seni MRT Station, captured in a viral video.

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana), the operator of Rapid KL, announced that the number of trains on the Kajang Line will increase from 39 to 42 by March 2025. Additionally, train frequency during peak hours will be improved, with intervals reduced from four minutes to 3.7 minutes, aiming to reduce platform waiting times during rush hour.

To address safety concerns, Prasarana has also deployed auxiliary police to high-traffic areas, including train platforms and escalators, ensuring smoother passenger movement.

The decision follows a video shared on social media by user @ihsanlikestoeat, highlighting the chaotic scene at Pasar Seni MRT Station on Tuesday, 26 November, around 6.45pm. The footage showed platforms crowded with commuters struggling to move as people descended from escalators, bumping into one another.

In response, Prasarana issued a statement on 30 November, apologising for the incident and pledging to prevent similar situations in the future.

"Prasarana apologises for the inconvenience experienced by passengers during the incident and will continue to make improvements to ensure the journey of Rapid KL passengers is safe, comfortable, and smooth," the statement read.
