Melaka will become the first state in Malaysia to officially implement a three-day public holiday for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, beginning this year.

This adjustment allows residents additional time for celebrations and travel, extending the break to five days when combined with the weekend on 29 and 30 March. The Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday in Melaka will now be observed from 31 March to 2 April.

According to Astro Awani, the Melaka state government proposed this extension in 2024 and sought Cabinet approval to increase the holiday period from two to three days. The proposal has since been approved, as confirmed by the Melakan government website.

This change does not add an extra holiday but instead replaces the Awal Ramadan public holiday, shifting the focus to a longer Hari Raya break.

Ramadan, which falls on 2 March, will remain a public holiday in Johor and Kedah. Previously, Melaka also observed this holiday, but with the new arrangement, the state will no longer do so.
