Singapore Implements New Rule Requiring Tray and Crockery Return at Eateries, 80-Year-Old Man Receives Warning

Singapore has recently introduced a new regulation aimed at ensuring cleanliness and hygiene in eateries. 

Patrons are now obligated to return their trays and crockery or face penalties, including fines and potential legal charges. The National Environment Agency (NEA) and Singapore Food Agency (SFA) have been tasked with enforcing this rule.

Enforcement officers wasted no time in implementing the new regulation, which took effect on Thursday, June 1st, across the country. 

On the first day of enforcement, an 80-year-old Singaporean man named Huang received a written warning for failing to clear his chopsticks after eating at Chinatown Complex Food Centre.

According to Huang, he typically clears his table after meals, but he was unable to locate the tray return rack at this particular eatery. He further noted that numerous patrons had left their used trays and crockery on their tables.

As Huang rose from his seat, enforcement officers promptly approached him and issued a written warning. 

The offense was listed as "You did leave behind a bowl, plate and chopsticks at the public dining place."

The warning also served as a reminder for Huang to abstain from any future criminal conduct, presumably including leaving trays and crockery on tables. It emphasized that leniency may not be extended if he commits any subsequent offenses.

Following the incident, Huang expressed his decision to avoid dining at the eatery in question.
