Man Losses RM19,500 To Job Scam While Looking For Part-Time Job, Only RM21 Left In Bank Account

Beware of scams, guys!

Job scams often involve fake online job ads in social media platforms and untrusted job portals offering high paying jobs. Victims may also receive unsolicited text messages, or messages from Facebook, WhatsApp or Telegram that offer jobs that do not exist.

Victims will be asked to share personal information such as mobile numbers OR transfer a small sum of money to secure the “job.”

Recently, a man who wanted to earn extra money by working part-time had lost all of his savings overnight.

The man, known as Pang, has only RM21.20 left in his bank account after losing RM19,542 overnight.

According to Sin Chew Daily, pang shared his unfortunate experience in a Facebook group to so that other people are aware of the scam.

Pang said he saw an ad offering a part-time job on Facebook and clicked on the link, which redirected him to WhatsApp.

The “company” then told him that he would earn 5% profit on every online purchase transaction. Apparently the company is a clothing company and the part-time job required him to pay for goods after placing an order.

Pang made a total of eight transactions to a personal account, and suspected that something was wrong when they told him that he needed to complete a ‘repurchase’ task.

Scammers are very good at what they do, and they can be very good at convincing you that they are who they say they are, so be careful!
