Malaysian Seniors Eligible for Free Flu Jabs from 18 Feb - Here’s How You Can Get Yours!

The National Influenza Immunisation Programme will begin on 18 February, offering free flu vaccinations to Malaysians aged 60 and above.

This initiative aims to protect senior citizens, particularly those with underlying health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or respiratory illnesses. Vaccinations can be booked through the MySejahtera app from 14 February and will be available at over 500 designated government health clinics nationwide, though availability depends on stock levels and the eligibility criteria set by the Ministry of Health.

The programme is expected to benefit around 170,000 senior citizens. Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni has urged all eligible individuals to take advantage of this opportunity for their wellbeing. To expand the programme’s reach, the government is open to partnerships with private entities and state authorities.

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan has confirmed that vaccine stocks will be distributed nationwide, with coordination between the ministry and state health departments to ensure an efficient rollout. A manual has also been issued to guide healthcare providers on administration procedures, vaccine tracking, and reporting of any adverse effects.

The Health Ministry has assured that there is no increasing trend of influenza cases in Malaysia, nor have there been any reported human cases of avian flu. The immunisation programme serves as a preventive measure to protect the elderly from severe flu-related complications. Influenza is more serious than a common cold, as it can lead to pneumonia, bronchitis, and worsening of chronic conditions such as asthma and heart disease, potentially becoming life-threatening for some individuals.

Those eligible should not miss this opportunity to get vaccinated for free by booking an appointment on MySejahtera from 14 February onwards.
