The first local case of monkeypox infection in Singapore has been confirmed by the Ministry of Health (MOH) Singapore.
The patient, a 45-year-old male Malaysian who resides in Singapore tested positive for monkeypox on Wednesday (July 6th).
He is now stable and is receiving medical care at the National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID).

“He is not linked to the imported case announced by the MOH on June 21st,” said the ministry, as reported by the Straits Times.
MOH added that the man first developed lower abdomen skin lesions on June 30th, and subsequently experienced fatigue and swollen lymph nodes on July 2nd. He developed a fever and sore throat on July 4th and sought medical attention.
Tests for other possible medical conditions were also done.
Three close contacts have been identified, including two housemat4s and one social contact. All close contacts will be placed in quarantine for 21 days.
