Safely Home! Malaysian and Her Palestinian Husband Return to KL After Being Stranded in Gaza

A Malaysian woman and her Palestinian husband have successfully returned to Kuala Lumpur, finding safety after being stranded in the conflict-ridden Gaza for the past month.

The heartfelt reunion unfolded at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 at 8:55 pm on November 14 as 37-year-old Nurul Ain Haron and her family joyfully welcomed the couple back from Doha, Qatar.

The couple, Nurul Ain and her 33-year-old husband Mohamed AM Shaat, were evacuated to Egypt via the Rafah border crossing on November 12, with assistance from the Malaysian Embassy in Cairo, as reported by Harian Metro.

Initially hesitant to leave Gaza and Mohamed's family, the deteriorating situation compelled them to alter their plans, redirecting their efforts to continue providing aid to the Palestinians.

Nurul Ain, expressing her gratitude for the public's generous donations, revealed that leaving Gaza became necessary due to worsening conditions, including the disruption of the international money transfer network by Israel.

Back in Malaysia, Nurul Ain remains committed to supporting Gaza by coordinating aid efforts. She highlighted the dire circumstances in Gaza, where essential supplies like bread are scarce, and the lack of water and electricity has persisted for over a month, attributing these challenges to the destruction of the largest factory in Gaza.

Despite the hardships, Nurul Ain is thankful that her husband's family is safe, and he can continue supporting them from Malaysia.

Expressing gratitude for his daughter's return after almost a year, Nurul Ain's father, 65-year-old Haron Hamim, commended her charitable work in Gaza, emphasizing the family's pride in her resilience amid challenging circumstances.

Acknowledging the initial fears, especially with the term 'genocide' circulating, Haron highlighted the heartwarming impact of Nurul Ain's charity work, describing it as a form of strength. He expressed the family's determination to support her endeavors, considering it a type of jihad, and expressed pride in her commitment to helping those in need.

Haron extended his thanks to the Malaysian government, specifically Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, for ensuring the safety of his daughter and son-in-law during the evacuation.
