Did you know that in Malaysia, football is the number one sport and approximately 10 million people show an interest in the sport, in a total population of over 32 million.

Football fans are very serious about the sport. Football is more than just a sport here, as it also brings people together (most of the time at mamaks), no matter their background or social class.
According to the Neilsen World Football Report 2022, “The level of interest in football in Southeast Asia is massive. Despite the fact that none of the countries in this region have traditionally qualified for the World Cup finals.
“More than half of the population in Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand are interested in football. The sport is also popular in Malaysia, the sixth most populated Southeast Asian country where it is practiced by more than half of the population.”

Southeast Asian countries rank among the highest in the list, far higher than South Korea and Japan, which are thought to have a much larger number of football fans.
