The updated ID cards will cover several types, including MyKad, MyTentera, and MyPoCA, the latter for individuals under legal supervision. One of the most notable changes is the addition of a QR code, enabling digital verification of the cards.

Deputy Home Minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah explained that the QR code is designed to combat forgery and misuse, bringing Malaysia’s identity cards in line with modern security standards. During a recent session in the Dewan Rakyat, he emphasised that citizens will be able to verify the authenticity of their ID cards digitally, giving greater confidence and security in everyday transactions.

The Deputy Minister also shared that the National Registration Department (JPN) will continue to process requests to update personal information on the new cards, depending on the type of change. In addition, his ministry will review a proposal to include Bumiputera status and religion on the cards, a request raised by Willie Mongin (GPS-Puncak Borneo).

This move marks a significant step forward in modernising Malaysia’s identity verification system, combining enhanced security with convenience for citizens.
