As the year ends, many Malaysians are excited about their upcoming holidays. But imagine reaching the airport, standing in line at immigration, and being told you can’t travel because of unpaid taxes!

This might seem like something that happens to others, but it’s more common than you think. As of 30 November, 203,123 individuals and companies have been banned from travelling due to tax arrears, according to the Inland Revenue Board (HASiL).
If this happens to you, you could lose your flight tickets and holiday bookings!
To avoid this, HASiL is urging everyone to check their tax status, especially if you’re planning to travel.
Here’s how:
… and if you don’t see any travel restrictions, you’re good to go!
If you do have a Stoppage Order, settle your unpaid taxes through ByrHasil or apply for a temporary release at least five days before your trip.
HASiL says travel bans are only used as a last resort. They are applied when someone or their company hasn’t paid taxes despite receiving multiple reminders and notices.
Paying taxes is important for Malaysia’s growth. Taxes fund projects that improve the country and provide better opportunities for future generations.
HASiL has made it easier to pay taxes with services like MyTax, so it’s simple to stay on top of your payments.
