The phenomenon of a woman carrying a baby to term without knowing that she is pregnant is more common than you think! And there’s even a term for it called cryptic pregnancy.
“This is not a particularly unusual phenomenon,” says Helen Cheyne, a professor of midwifery at the University of Stirling’s Nursing, Midwifery And Allied Health Professions Research Unit in Glasgow. “It’s rare, but it’s not that rare.”

A woman in Kedah was shocked when she unexpectedly gave birth because she had no idea that she was pregnant.
According to Harian Metro, the 24-year-old housewife, Eyka said she had no pregnancy symptoms and had never missed her periods. She had even been using birth control pills since the birth of her first child last year.
Eyka and her husband had no idea that her stomach ache last Tuesday (18 October) would lead to the birth of their second child, “My stomach was hurting as I was resting on the sofa at home. It was still bearable but the pain started to get worse the next day.”
She then assumed that she was just constipated but then the pain got unbearable… which is when she began screaming for her husband’s help.

Eyka said she started pushing three times until her husband saw the baby’s head. He was surprised but was ready to welcome their newborn baby.
“Our baby was born at around 8:45 am and was taken by ambulance to Hospital Tuanku Fauziah in Kangar, Perlis to receive proper care,” she explained.
She was, of course, still shocked even after a few days because she had no idea she was pregnant.
Oh my, that must be so scary… but must be very exciting as well because hello, new baby?!
Congratulations, Eyka, we’re glad that both you and your baby are healthy.
