Recently, Malaysian netizens have been expressing their concerns on Twitter after an 11-seconds video went viral of a hidden camera in a fitting room of a popular fashion retail chain in Malaysia.

Police are currently investigating the matter following a report lodged by the company.

Hidden cameras, or also known as spy cameras, are those video cameras that are used to secretly and covertly record individuals. Similar to security cameras, hidden cameras use an image sensor and a lens to record videos.

There are a few simple steps you can take to find hidden cameras if you're worried that someone may be watching you.

Check for any unusual objects in the room

One of the easiest ways to detect hidden cameras is to check the environment carefully. A thorough search would be helpful to spot “obvious” hidden cameras.

Check if there’s a hidden camera behind the mirror

Spy cameras CAN be installed on the other side of the mirror that is see-through, while the other side looks the same as a normal mirror. This is called a two-way mirror…

Here’s a useful tip you can use to detect such two-way mirrors in fitting rooms, toilets, and even hotel rooms:

  1. Put your fingernail on the mirror

  2. Observe the gap between your finger and the mirror

  3. See if there’s a gap between your finger and the image, it’s a real mirror. If your finger and the image touch tip to tip, there might be a hidden spy camera in the mirror.

  4. You can also tap on the mirror to check whether it’s a two-way mirror. A normal mirror will make a dull sound while a two-way mirror will make a sharp or hollow sound.

Hope this helps, and be safe, ladies!
