Heavy rain alert!

The heavy rain that is currently affecting Kelantan and Terengganu will soon head over to Pahang, Johor and the western region of Sarawak next, says Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions).

The second wave of the north-east monsoon in 2022/2023, which was previously expected to last from December 17 to December 21, will now last through December 25, according to the most recent data from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

“The government has requested that the disaster management committees at the respective state and district levels, especially in the hotspot areas for these three states, increase their level of preparedness,” he added, as reported by the Malay Mail.

In his statements on the country's current flood situation, he said that it was still at level two and under control, with regulation still being handled by the relevant state disaster management committees.

He stated that as of 2 pm on Tuesday (20 December), there were 67,214 flood evacuees, up from 18,450 families, who were housed in 469 relief facilities spread across 20 districts and five states.

He claimed that overall, since the monsoon hit the country and its people in early November, 25,635 families with 92,157 victims in 11 states have been housed in relief centers.
