The Norwegian striker has been unstoppable since joining from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, banging in goal after goal for the Premier League side and putting other bigger names to shame.

He was on the scoresheet again this morning, netting five times in City’s 7-0 victory over RB Leipzig in their Champions League last-16 second leg tie.

This was more than just an impressive haul for the young marksman, it also broke a number of goalscoring records, which we will take a look at below:

1.Third player to score five in a single Champions League game

Haaland joins the great Lionel Messi and Luiz Adriano as the only players to ever score five times in a single Champions League match.

Messi achieved the feat in Barcelona’s 7-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen back in 2012, while Adriano scored five when Shakhtar Donetsk thrashed BATE Borisov 7-0 two years later.

Interestingly, Haaland may have even broken the record outright, had he not been substituted in the 62nd minute against Leipzig.

2.Youngest player to cross the 30-goal mark

At 22 years of age, Haaland is now the youngest player to cross the 30-goal mark in the Champions League.

He is 116 days younger than previous record holder Kylian Mbappe.

Haaland also hit the milestone in just 25 matches, faster than any other player in history.

3.More goals that some legends

Haaland’s heroics against Leipzig takes his career tally in the Champions League to 33, including from his previous spells with RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund.

This means he has now scored more goals in Europe’s elite club competition that past footballing greats Wayne Rooney (Man Utd), Kaka (AC Milan, Real Madrid) and Samuel Eto'o (Mallorca, Barcelona, Inter, Chelsea)…all of whom are on 30 goals.

4.Most hattricks continent-wide

Haaland has now scored a total of five hattricks in all competitions for City this season.

This is three more than any other player in Europe’s five other major leagues.

He is also now the first Premier League player to score five hattricks in a season since Harry Kane back in 2016/2017.

5.City’s best

And finally, Erling Haaland has now scored 39 goals across all competitions for City this season alone.

This makes him the club’s highest goal scorer in a single campaign, beating the 94-year old record by Tommy Johnson that has stood since 1929.

This record, too, is bound to be broken before the end of the season considering Haaland’s prolific form.
