The initiative encompasses various modes of transportation, including mass rapid transit (MRT), light rail transit (LRT), monorail, and Prasarana bus services within the Klang Valley.
Minister Loke specified that Prasarana has a month to prepare and coordinate the ticketing system, which includes the issuance of special concession cards for persons with disabilities (PwD).
PwD users can avail themselves of free rides by presenting their OKU cards issued by the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and applying for the special card.
Acknowledging the financial impact on Prasarana, Minister Loke highlighted that the decision to provide free rides for PwDs is part of Prasarana's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Previously, OKU cardholders only enjoyed a 50% discount on public transportation.
During a press conference at the Stadium Kajang MRT station, Minister Loke also launched the women’s coach pilot project for the MRT Kajang line at the Bandar Tun Hussien Onn MRT station in Cheras.
The pilot project aims to enhance comfort, ensure the safety of female passengers, and prevent incidents of sexual harassment. Minister Loke noted a decline in sexual harassment complaints, from eight cases in the first quarter of the year to only three cases in the fourth quarter, despite an increase in passenger numbers.
Consequently, the pilot project is set to be expanded to the Putrajaya line.
