A bottlenose dolphin was recently found stranded at Air Papan Beach in Mersing, Johor.
According to BERNAMA, Johor Fisheries Department director, Zainudin Abd Wahab said that the dolphin was still alive when it was discovered but had injuries on its tail that might have resulted from it crashing into coral or rocks in the choppy waters.

Following the department’s SOPs, he claimed that the dolphin was returned back into the ocean as its injuries were not serious.
He also urged the public to report any case of endangered species or turtles being beached to the department.
In a separate statement, Mersing Civil Defence Force (APM) captain, Nurnajibah Abdullah said the dolphin was discovered by an APM officer manning the beach rescue tower while he was putting up warning flags on the beach.
The officer attempted to return the stranded animal, which weighs between 30 and 35 kilograms, to the sea but was unsuccessful due to the high tide and strong waves.
APM then contacted the Fisheries Office for further action, and the dolphin was released back into the ocean in Teluk Buih.
