Parts of Jalan Raja at Dataran Merdeka to Close Temporarily for a Week in Effort to Upgrade Public Area

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has announced a temporary closure of a section of Jalan Raja for one week, from 9 to 15 June.

The affected stretch runs in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, spanning from Jalan Tun Perak to the junction with Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. To keep traffic flowing smoothly, diversions will be put in place during this period.

While light vehicles travelling along Jalan Raja can still make a right turn onto Jalan Tun Perak, vehicles coming from Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Tun Perak will not be permitted to enter Jalan Raja. DBKL will install clear signage and deploy enforcement officers to guide drivers and help them adapt to these changes, according to a report by Malaysia Gazette.

Public transport services, including GOKL, RapidKL, and Hop On Hop Off (HOHO) buses, will also see temporary route adjustments because of the closure. Passengers are encouraged to check with their service providers for the latest information on altered routes and bus stops.

This road closure is part of DBKL’s efforts to transform Kuala Lumpur’s city centre into a more pedestrian-friendly, organised, and livable space. By partially closing Jalan Raja, the city hopes to create a wider and safer environment for pedestrians, especially families, children, senior citizens, and people with disabilities.

Additionally, the closure aims to encourage cultural and artistic activities around Merdeka Square, breathing new life into the area.

To ensure the community’s views are considered, DBKL is conducting a public survey to gather feedback on the proposed closure. For more details and to participate, you can visit the official link provided by DBKL.
