However, a recurring issue persists among Malaysians that demands attention and change – the prevalent tendency to litter, indicative of a mindset that falls behind!

The Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) recently used its Facebook platform to express disdain and highlight the nation's “third-world mentality,” vividly portrayed in the aftermath of New Year's Eve celebrations.

In their online post, DBKL remarked, “Still with a third world mentality. Today is the first day in which we are stepping into 2024. Last night, the year 2023 was left with a thousand memories. Every one of us has definitely set our own resolutions to be more successful in pursuing our dreams this year.”

DBKL went on to encourage Malaysians not to leave their trash and to take responsibility for managing them, "We are not asking for help in cleaning up; at the very least, each of us can responsibly handle our own waste. Refrain from littering and, if needed, carry a personal trash bag," they emphasised.

The call for personal responsibility is underscored by the simplicity of carrying your own trash until a proper trash bin is found. The hope resonates clearly – that Malaysians abandon the habit of littering in the past year and embrace a more conscientious approach in 2024.

As Malaysians usher in a new year, the challenge lies in transcending outdated behaviours and fostering a community that values and actively participates in maintaining cleanliness, ultimately shaping a more progressive and responsible society.
