COVID-19: No Additional SOPs For Chinese Travellers Entering Sabah, Says Its Chief Minister

Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said there won't be any additional standard operating procedures (SOP) imposed on travellers arriving in Sabah from China.

Last Sunday (8 January), he stated that the only SOP requirement for travellers from China is to present negative PCR tests for COVID-19 and to have received the necessary vaccinations in their home country.

"With China's border officially opened, we look forward to welcoming Chinese visitors to our shores once again.

"China has been a friendly neighbour to us. The Chinese government provided Sabah with various forms of assistance, particularly medical assistance, during the difficult times and at the height of the pandemic, and we are appreciative. We have a good rapport and will always have a good relationship,” he said, as reported by BERNAMA.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Health director-general, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that the SOP will remain in place for the time being before determining whether to tighten the SOPs for Chinese travellers.

"What worries us is that when a new variant is discovered, we are not sure whether our vaccine is effective or not. We'll also check with WHO (World Health Organization) to see if another variant has been registered," he said. Z

Stay safe, everyone! And don’t forget to get yourself vaccinated if you haven’t!
