COVID-19 Frontliners Receive Thunderous Applause At Merdeka Parade

Malaysians arrived as early as 3 am on Wednesday (31 August) at Dataran Merdeka to celebrate the country’s 65th National Day.

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Bomba, PDRM K9 Unit, Malaysian Armed Forces and veterans are among those who can be seen parading at the event. But the ones getting the loudest cheers yesterday were the COVID-19 frontliners who also marched at the National Day parade.

The 84-contingent comprises staff of the Ministry of Health (MOH), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Armed Forces, Civil Defense Force, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), local authorities (PBT), as well as the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).

According to BERNAMA, contingent head Khairil Hilmi Mokhtar said the team, led by the National Security Council (MKN), comprised personnel from agencies that were involved in handling and curbing the spread of COVID-19 over the past two years.

“Although the contingent is small, it represents a large group that has contributed to the country. This is the first time in the country’s 65 years of history that we have combined a contingent to represent Malaysians.

“We are grateful, the crowd cheered and applauded when we marched past them. We can feel that we are appreciated,” he told reporters.

Real life heroes! Thank you, frontliners for going above and beyond, risking your own health and safety to keep Malaysians safe!
