Hannah Yeoh, Minister of Youth and Sports, has expressed her displeasure with the actions of a coach seen in a video clip slapping his students during a volleyball tournament.
"This is wrong!" she tweeted in response to a local news portal's report.
According to the New Straits Times, the clip, which has gone viral, shows the coach of the Melaka under-14 girls volleyball team slapping two of his players during the recent 2022 Malaysia Youth U14 Volleyball Championship in Johor.
Yeoh stated that she had spoken with Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and that they were both gathering additional information about the incident reported by FMT.
Meanwhile, former youth and sports minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu stated that such abusive behavior was unnecessary.
He claimed that if such incidents were not investigated, they would recur.
"Education, awareness, and effective supervision are critical to ensuring mutual respect between athletes and their coaches or administrators," he tweeted.
Some of Yeoh's Twitter followers also criticized the coach, with many calling for his arrest and dismissal.
